Seite 61 · A headphone you can repair yourself
By Wally Cartigny:
A headphone is one of the most used electronic devices, both at work and in private life
The 'Green' headphone is a valuable promotional product
Electronic devices for individual use are generally not very sustainable. This is unfortunate when it comes to their use as promotional products. Increasingly, people are using headphones. They are very suitable for promotional purposes, but if they break, they quickly become a polluting product. However, the Dutch headphone brand Repeat has come up with a solution.
Aheadphone is one of the most used electronic devices, both at work and in private life. We use them to listen to music, make calls, attend meetings, listen to podcasts, or dampen ambient noise. A product with many applications for many people is inherently suitable as a promotional product and business gift. However, a common issue is the durability of such a device. Cheaper headphones, in particular, can wear out quickly with intensive use. When a defect occurs, it is challenging to determine what exactly is broken and how it can be fixed. As a result, the entire headphone often ends up on the electronic waste pile, including the metals, plastics, and lithium (for rechargeable batteries) that the device consists of. This is highly undesirable given the growing amount of e-waste worldwide, which amounts to about 50 million tons(!).
Sustainability as a Starting Point
For entrepreneurs Dorus Galama and Tom Leenders, making headphones more sustainable was the motivation
